Health education DVDs by deaf people for deaf people

11 May 2011

Health education DVDs on mental health and heart diseases, custom made for deaf people by deaf people, will be made available this summer, with a free launch event in July. This event is aimed at health services and organisations who want to reduce health inequalities for deaf people in their area.

Health Deafinitions, a deaf-led organisation, has developed this resource to bring accessible health information to the deaf community who rely on British Sign Language.

North West launch event: Thursday 7th July 2011
Time: 1pm -3pm
Venue: Woodlands, Southport Rd, Chorley, PR7 1QR

Recent studies among disadvantaged communities in the West Midlands found that 72% of the deaf people involved had to be referred for further testing as they had high risk indicators for cardiovascular disease, raising concerns that reason for this high percentage might be linked to a lack of information and understanding.

Health Deafinitions has achieved the Information Standard for its information resources, which means that the information is trustworthy, reliable and accurate information.
